Dermatophyte infections can greatly affect quality of life, but rarely do they pose serious or life threatening problems. With the use of an antifungal fungal creams ringworm, which is a dermatophyte infection, can be healed. Treating the fungal infection may be a long drawn out procedure, as different types of ringworm infections need different treatments. Even with proper treatment instances of reoccurrence are not unheard of. Discontinuing the medication too early may allow the fungus to continue to grow, which may result in a relapse of the infection. Be sure to use the products exactly as directed and to keep the skin area dry and clean.

What is Ringworm?

Tinea Corporis or Ringworm, the more common term used for a superficial dermatophyte infection characterized by either itchy inflammatory or non-inflammatory lesions on the skin. Another typical factor found in most antifungal creams is that it contains a second active ingredient to reduce the itching. Ringworm infections can be avoided by keeping the skin clean and dry, changing socks and underwear each day. Other measures include not sharing clothing or towels and wearing some type of shower shoe or sandal when in public showers or locker rooms.

While there are numerous home remedies for ringworm, antifungal creams are readily available over the counter and easy to use to treat all types of ringworm infections. Be sure to use the products exactly as directed and to keep the skin area dry and clean. You should always follow the directions given for the specific antifungal cream you choose. Whether or not your condition is not improving within a few days of use, you should continue to use the antifungal product for the length of time recommended before trying something else. If it is obvious that a condition is not improving, a simple solution may be a variation of strength of the active ingredient. Another option is try a different antifungal ingredient. There are different strengths available and they will also have recommendations for length of use.

If you use an antifungal cream to treat ringworm, you should first wash the infected area with soap and water. Next remove flaky skin and dry thoroughly. If there are large areas of blistered sores, use compresses to soothe and dry out the blisters. Completely cover the site with antifungal cream beyond the edge or border of the fungal infection. The directions on the package should be followed carefully. Treatment will probably need to be continued for at least two to four weeks.

The Best Ringworm Remedy

Soothing Skin Repair Cream kills ringworm rashes, relieves itching from scabies and other parasites for one person. Excellent ringworm treatment.

All Stop Medicated Skin Cream, formally called Sulfinex, is a specifically-designed, topical cream that provides quick relief from redness, pain, warmth, and swelling from damaged inflammed skin. The redness, warmth, pain, and swelling are the results of repairing damage that was caused to the skin.
Tinea is the fungus that causes ringworm, jock itch and athlete’s foot or in medical terms tinea corporis, tinea cruris and tinea pedis respectively. These infections are typically not serious, but they can be extremely uncomfortable. They can be contracted by touching or contact with an infected person, from damp surfaces such as shower floors, or even from a pet.

Tinea corporis, is the name given to a fungus infection of the skin also called “ringworm of the body,” and often affects children and adults who live in hot, humid climates. The typical appearance of this infection is a circular plaque with a well outlined border. Since tinea corporis can be asymptomatic, it can spread rapidly among children and in day-care and school settings. It may be spread from person to person, from contact with an infected animal, most often a cat, or from exposure to fungus in the soil. Itchy red scaly patches come up anywhere the animal has rubbed. They often develop into a ring. This kind of tinea usually clears up with appropriate creams. If the condition was transferred by an animal, even if it has no signs of a skin problem the animal will need to be treated also.

Tinea Corporis Tinea Cruris Definition

Tinea cruris is usually referred to as “jock itch,” because as this condition implies, it causes itching or a burning sensation in areas of the groin, thigh skin folds, or anus. It may involve the inner thighs and genital areas. Unlike yeast infections, tinea cruris generally does not involve the scrotum or the penis. It is very common and affects men more often than women and rarely affects children.

Tinea Corporis Tinea Cruris Facts

The itchy red patches will spread in the warm moist areas of the body. Variations of red, tan, or brown coloration may appear in the infected areas. Flaking, rippling, peeling, or cracking skin will also be present. Tinea cruris is often treated with antifungal drugs topically applied. Topical therapy is adequate in most patients with tinea cruris. Oral therapy is the preferred treatment in cases where the infection spreads to the lower thighs or buttocks,. Customarily creams containing anti-fungal agents work by deterring the fungi from producing a substance called ergosterol, which is a necessary part of fungal cell membranes. If ergosterol synthesis is completely or partially blocked, the cell is no longer able to produce an intact cell membrane. This effectively kills the fungus.

Ringworm, Athlete’s Foot, contagious rashes can all be contracted if you come into direct contact with someone who is infected. Touching contaminated items can also spread the infection. Direct skin contact also raises the chances of Ringworm or other contagious skin infections. Humans are far more likely to contract Athlete’s Foot or Ringworm from places like a school, playground, gym, or shower facilities. Tinea corporis in medical terms, but Ringworm to most people, is the name used for minor skin afflictions of the trunk, legs or arms of a dermatophyte fungus. Dermatophytes are a group of related fungi that infect and live on the top layer of the epidermis. Ringworm in the feet is a skin infection is called Athlete’s Foot and caused by this fungus that can affect the scalp, skin, fingers, toenails or feet.

The term Ringworm refers to round or oval red scaly patches that appear on the skin. They are often seen to be less red and scaly in the middle or can even look healed at the center. It is typical for one ring to develop inside another preexisting ring. Acute Ringworm, Athlete’s Foot infections show up as itchy inflamed red patches that may be pustular. Chronic Ringworm is more likely to be found in sweaty body folds. Severe cases of Ringworm, Athlete’s Foot, contagious rashes and the like all have a tendency to be hard to treat and have a likely-hood of recurrence. There are non-fungal conditions that look a lot like Ringworm, Athlete’s Foot and other contagious rashes. They include impetigo, Seborrhoeic dermatitis, Psoriasis, Discoid eczema, Lichen simplex, Contact allergic dermatitis and Pityriasis rosea.

Ringworm Athletes Foot Symptoms

Athlete’s Foot symptoms may appear suddenly and then spread rapidly. In chronic cases there is a slow growing area of a relatively mild, minimally inflamed, rash. It will more than likely affect exposed areas and it is not uncommon that it could also spread from other infected areas. Athlete’s Foot is most often treated with antifungal drugs topically applied. Topical therapy is adequate in most patients with Ringworm, Athlete’s Foot or other contagious rashes. It is normal for creams containing anti-fungal agents to work by hindering the fungi from producing a substance called ergosterol. This is a necessary part of fungal cell membranes. If ergosterol synthesis is completely or partially blocked, an intact cell membrane can no longer be produced. This effectively kills the fungus. Keeping feet clean and dry, not sharing socks or contaminated articles and wearing shower shoes goes a long way to keeping Ringworm, Athlete’s Foot contagious as it is from spreading.

It is an antifungal that works by preventing the growth of fungus. Continue to use this medication until the full prescribed amount is finished, even if symptoms disappear after starting the treatment. Discontinuing the medication too early may allow the fungus to continue to grow, which may result in a relapse of the infection. Pets should also be treated if infection is suspected. Many of these products are available without a prescription. Use a nonprescription antifungal cream with miconazole or clotrimazole in it. Brand names include Micatin, Tinactin, Monistat, and Lotrimin. Terbinafine cream or Lamisil is also available without a prescription.

Tinea Pedis or athlete’s foot as it is known to most, is common in males and athletes. This appears as white and moist skin between toes. Although creams offer relief for the infection, you can take oral products for effective treatment for severe cases of ringworm skin infections. Treating ringworm is a must because not only is it extremely contagious but ringworm infection can lead to chronic problems and diseases. Dermatophytes live on dead tissues of nail, hair, and skin. This fungus causes ringworm skin infection although there are many other ringworm causing fungi. Treating the fungal infection may be a long drawn out procedure, as different types of ringworm infections need different treatments. Tinea Unguium is ringworm infection that attacks the nails and leads to a thickening and discoloration of the toenails. There are several effective treatments for such ringworm infections. Severe cases of infections in nails need oral treatments. With a product containing tolnaftate like antifungal Lamisil cream ringworm will be treated and faster relief will be achieved.

When taking precautions to avoid ringworm type infections stay away from the following, direct skin-to-skin contact with a human infected with ringworm or contact with an animal infected with ringworm. The infection is carried by many animals including dogs, cats, rabbits and even horses, pigs, and goats. Sharing another person’s towel or bedding could spread the infection that causes ringworm. Even playing in the dirt, though rare, has been thought to cause ringworm infection.

Tinea corporis (ringworm) is the name used for superficial skin infections of the trunk, legs or arms of a dermatophyte fungus. Dermatophytes are a group of related fungi that infect and survive on the top layer of the epidermis or skin called the keratin. Ringworm or Tinea Corporis is a skin infection caused by this fungus that can affect the scalp, skin, fingers, toenails or feet.

There are three groups of fungi that cause skin infection or Tinea Corporis of this type and can be categorized according to their preferred host sources:

geophile or fungi from soil sources

zoophile or fungi from animals

anthropophile or fungi from humans

The fungi transmitted primarily through contact with animals or zoophile is usually responsible for tinea corporis ringworm. It is usually transmitted through contact with animals such as dogs, cats, calves, hamsters, and guinea pigs.

Most mammals have at least one type of fungus, and in most instances the animal and fungus coexist without the animal ever manifesting any symptoms of the fungus or Tinea Corporis. This does not mean that the fungus cannot be transmitted to humans.

Children are particularly vulnerable to tinea corporis ringworm and can pass it effortlessly to other children. Adults are not immune and can also become infected. Persons who fall in the high risk category are farmers and people who work with animals that have fur.

The term tinea corporis is the medical term for ringworm, which refers to round or oval red scaly patches on the skin. They are often seen to be less red and scaly in the middle or even look healed at the center. It is common for one ring to develop inside another preexisting ring.

Tinea Corporis May Be Acute

Tinea corporis may be acute which means there is a sudden onset and it rapidly spreads. Or Tinea Corporis could be chronic which is a slow broadening of a mild, minimally inflamed, rash. Most often it affects exposed areas but could also spread from other infected sites. Non-fungal conditions that resemble tinea corporis include impetigo, Seborrhoeic dermatitis, Psoriasis, Discoid eczema, Lichen simplex, Contact allergic dermatitis and Pityriasis rosea.

Acute tinea corporis shows up as itchy inflamed red patches that may be pustular. Chronic tinea corporis is more likely to be found in body folds. Acute tinea corporis has a tendency to be stubborn to treat and prone to recurrence if widespread. Lessening of natural skin resistance to fungi or because of re-infection from the environment could possibly be the reason for this recurrence.

Tinea pedis is the most common type in the United States and in the rest of the world. According to Emedicine Tinea capitis, which is ringworm of the head, is the most common dermatophyte infection of childhood. Tinea corporis on the other hand is present in all ages, although it is seen more frequently in adolescents and pregnant females. Onychomycosis is a common problem, especially in adults. In a survey in the United States, the occurrence of onychomycosis was approximately 3% in males and 1.4% in females. Emedicine goes on to state that in a sample of North American children, 0.44% had onychomycosis.

Fungal infection concerns all races, but the frequency of organisms differs by country. Both sexes are touched by fungal infection. Though in some cases like Tinea cruris the infection is much more commonly found in males. This is because of the male anatomy is prone to and allows moisture to accumulate in the crural folds. Fungal infection can also affect all ages. Tinea capitis mainly is found in children but adults are not immune

Tinea cruris, tinea pedis, and onychomycosis predominantly affect the adult population. Dermatophytoses may be acquired from different sources, such as people, animals, or soil. Infected humans are the most common source of tinea corporis in the United States. Contact with contaminated household pets, farm animals, and contact with infected hair brushes, towels, etc. can spread infection. T verrucosum causes 98% of dermatophyte infections in cattle and is showing increasing prevalence of infection in human contacts. T mentagrophytes is spread by rabbits, guinea pigs, and small rodents.

Tinea Corporis May Result From Contact

Tinea corporis may result from contact with infected humans, animals, or inanimate objects. Persons such as farm workers, zookeepers, laboratory workers and veterinarians have a higher exposure rate to possible Tinea Corporis infection from animals. Gardening or contact with animals provides opportunities for Tinea Corporis infection as well as contact sports and sports facilities exposure.

Tinea Corporis Can Manifest In A Variety Of Ways

Tinea corporis can manifest in a variety of ways. Tinea Corporis Infection signs are typically noticed on the exposed skin of the trunk and extremities. Tinea Corporis is characterized by annular scaly plaques with raised edges, pustules, and vesicles. This is usually tinea imbricata (Trichophyton concentricum).Tinea corporis gladiatorum is seen on the head, neck, and arms, in a pattern consistent with the areas of skin-to-skin contact often seen in contact sports such as wrestling. How to treat Tinea Corporis? How to avoid Tinea Corporis? Is Tinea Corporis the same with ringworm? Tinea Corporis should be treated.

Tinea is the Latin name for a growing worm. Medical terminology adds another word to indicate where the fungus is located. Ringworm scalp tinea capitis, all refers to scalp ringworm, tinea corporis to fungus of the body, tinea pedis to fungus of the feet, etc.

Ringworm is a common skin disorder known as tinea. Ringworm is not, in spite of its’ name caused by a worm. It is a fungal infection of the skin. In some cases, but not always, it is a round ring-like lesion, hence the name. The term “ringworm” or “ringworms” refers to fungal infections that are on the surface of the skin. The early belief was that the infection was due to a worm, which it is not. Ringworm is a fungus infection in the skin. Nevertheless, the name “ringworm” has caught on. Some of these fungi produce round spots on the skin, but many do not. On the other hand, many round spots on the skin are not due to a fungal infection. A physical examination of the affected skin, evaluation of skin scrapings under the microscope, and culture tests can help doctors make the appropriate distinctions. A proper diagnosis is essential to successful treatment.

A zoonotic disease, ringworm can be passed from animals to humans. Cats are more likely to be infected of all animals. The skin changes in cats are very similar to those of affected people, but cats can carry the infection without exhibiting obvious signs. It is sometimes hard to tell the source of the fungus. A highly contagious infection, ringworm can be passed from animal to person or person to person through direct skin contact as well as through contaminated items like clothing, shower or pool surfaces and toiletry items.

The fungi that cause ringworm tend to grow and thrive in warm moist areas of the body. Areas that are frequently moist from perspiration, skin folds that stay damp are especially vulnerable. Good examples are the feet, the groin or the scalp. You may experience bald patches where hair would normally grow on the scalp. The fungus lives on the dead tissue of the skin and leaves a lesion. Skin fungi, like ringworm can only live on the dead layer of keratin protein on top of the skin. Rarely do they invade deeper into the body. They cannot live on mucous membranes, such as those in the mouth or vagina.

With the use of an antifungal Tinea corporis ringworm can be healed although there are instances of re-infection. Treating the fungal infection may be a long drawn out procedure, as different types of ringworm infections need different treatments. Pets should also be treated if infection is suspected. Be sure to use the products exactly as directed and to keep the skin area dry and clean. Always follow the directions for the specific antifungal cream you use. Unless your condition is not improving within a few days of use, you should continue to use the antifungal product for the length of time recommended. If it is obvious that a condition is not improving, a variation of strength of the active ingredient may be needed. Another option is try a different antifungal ingredient. Many have different strengths and will have recommendations for length of use. Discontinuing the medication too early may allow the fungus to continue to grow, which may result in a relapse of the infection.

What is Tinea corporis ringworm

is a superficial dermatophyte infection characterized by either inflammatory or non-inflammatory lesions on the skin. Tinea corporis ringworm occurs in both men and women. Women of childbearing age are more likely to develop tinea corporis as a result of their greater frequency of contact with infected children. Dermatophyte infections can greatly affect quality of life, but rarely do they pose serious or life threatening problems.

Ringworm is the more common term used for Tinea corporis infection. Tinea corporis ringworm looks like a rash that forms one-half to one-inch, ring-shaped, pink or red patches with a clear center. The rash may itch slightly. Jock itch appears around the groin area but not normally on the penis and appears like a red, ring-like rash. Jock itch can be extremely itchy and form small, painful blisters. Nail ringworm is more common on the toenails than fingernails, and makes the nail appear thickened and dull. Scalp ringworm may cause round patches of hair loss, broken hair, and/or an itchy, scaly scalp. Scalp ringworm is extremely contagious among children. Athlete’s foot appears between the toes as a scaly, itchy rash. It can range from mild irritation to cracking and peeling, making the skin very sore and more open to bacterial infection.

Tinea corporis ringworm Prevention

Tinea corporis ringworm can be prevented by keeping the skin clean and dry, changing socks and underwear each day, not sharing clothing or towels and wearing some type of shower shoe or sandal when in public showers or locker rooms.

Ringworm (Tinea corporis) or ringworm skin disease is the name used for superficial skin infections of the trunk, legs or arms of a dermatophyte fungus. Dermatophytes are associated with ringworm skin disease which is a group of related fungi that infect and survive on the top layer of the epidermis or skin called the keratin. Ringworm skin disease is a skin infection caused by this fungus that can affect the scalp, skin, fingers, toenails or feet.

Category of Ringworm Skin Disease

There are three groups of fungi that cause ringworm skin disease and can be categorized according to their preferred host sources:

* geophile or fungi from soil sources
* zoophile or fungi from animals
* anthropophile or fungi from humans

The fungi transmitted primarily through contact with animals or zoophile is usually responsible for ringworm skin disease. Ringworm skin disease is usually transmitted through contact with animals such as dogs, cats, calves, hamsters, and guinea pigs.

Most mammals have at least one type of fungus, and in most instances the animal and fungus coexist without the animal ever manifesting any symptoms of the fungus or causing the ringworm skin disease. This does not mean that the fungus cannot be transmitted to humans and may cause ringworm skin disease. Children are particularly vulnerable to ringworm skin disease and can pass it effortlessly to other children. Adults are not immune and can also become infected with ringworm skin disease. Persons who fall in the high risk of ringworm skin disease are farmers and people who work with animals that have fur may also get ringworm skin disease. The term tinea corporis is the medical term for ringworm, which refers to round or oval red scaly patches on the skin. They are often seen to be less red and scaly in the middle or even look healed at the center. Ringworm skin disease is common for one ring to develop inside another preexisting ring.

Acute and Chronic Ringworm Skin Disease

Ringworm may be acute which means there is a sudden onset and it rapidly spreads. Or it could be chronic which is a slow broadening of a mild, minimally inflamed, rash. Most often it affects exposed areas but could also spread from other infected sites. Non-fungal conditions that resemble ringworm include impetigo, Seborrhoeic dermatitis, Psoriasis, Discoid eczema, Lichen simplex, Contact allergic dermatitis and Pityriasis rosea. Acute ringworm shows up as itchy inflamed red patches that may be pustular. Chronic ringworm is more likely to be found in body folds. Acute ringworm has a tendency to be stubborn to treat and prone to recurrence if widespread. Lessening of natural skin resistance to fungi or because of re-infection from the environment could possibly be the reason for the recurrence of ringworm skin disease.
