CHICAGO (PRWEB) June 2, 2006

A new report issued by scientists at Duke and Harvard University shows that as one of the major greenhouse gases—C02—intensifies in the atmosphere a consequence may be a more potent and expansive form of poison ivy. It seems that CO2 acts as a fertilizer for urushiol, the toxic oil found in poison ivy plants, causing them to not only grow more abundantly but to produce a more noxious form of urushiol.

This report demonstrates the growing need for people to take active precautions to minimize their risk of plant exposure. Cade Laboratories, makers of büji poison ivy products, offers the following recommendations:

1. Learn to recognize the plants and avoid them. There are countless online resources with detailed explanations on poison ivy plants.

2. Whenever possible, wear long clothing when heading out into areas where there may be poison ivy, oak or sumac.

3. Apply a poison ivy/oak barrier cream to exposed areas of the body before heading outdoors to decrease risk of allergic outbreaks. büji Block™ lotion forms a protective layer on your skin and features an SPF 20 sunscreen for added protection.

4. Wash all exposed areas thoroughly after possible exposure to the plants, taking special care to remove clothing, which can often be a prime carrier of urushiol oil. Specially formulated cleansers, such as büji™ Wash, are designed to remove urushiol oil anytime after exposure or breakout.

About büji and Cade Laboratories: büji™ outsmarts the outdoor elements with products that relieve, protect and condition the skin – thereby enhancing people’s enjoyment of the outdoors. büji’s premier products target the source of poison ivy/oak reactions and provide UVA/UVB sun protection. They are fragrance-free, dye-free, hypoallergenic and dermatologist-and pediatrician-tested. büji is formulated and marketed by Cade Laboratories. Founded in 2004, the company uses smart, sophisticated science to create innovative skin care products that meet the needs of today’s active consumer. Cade headquarters are located in Chicago, Illinois. For more information, visit http://www.bujiproducts.com or call 888-606-2854.

Baby Hives, also known as urticaria or welts, are swollen areas on the skin. They can show up in different shapes and sizes, but are generally well defined, with a pale, central, raised area surrounded by a red border. Baby hives usually itch. Baby Hives can come and go over a period of minutes, hours and sometimes even weeks. They also can appear for only a few minutes and never return again.

Baby hives are a sign of an allergic reaction, and are usually harmless if they are the only symptom your child is having. Children with baby hives and more severe symptoms, such as wheezing, difficulty breathing or swallowing, or swelling in their mouth or throat, may have anaphylaxis – a serious allergic reaction. These children need immediate medical attention.

Baby Hives are a type of allergic or immune system reaction

Baby Hives are a type of allergic or immune system reaction that occurs when something triggers the release of chemicals, including histamine, from cells in a child’s body. It is important to remember that there are many more things in addition to food allergies that can cause baby hives in kids. These include medications, infections, exposure to the sun, and for some kids, even physically touching their skin repeatedly, like scratching, which is called dermographism.

A baby with baby hives may have additional symptoms depending on what is triggering the baby hives. For example, if a viral infection is causing the baby hives, then he may have a sore throat, runny nose, and/or a cough. Although some things, such as certain foods, commonly cause baby hives, keep in mind that almost anything can trigger baby hives.

To help figure out the cause of baby hives in your child, keep a diary of all of your baby’s medications and everything he has recently had to eat and drink.

Since baby hives are caused by the chemical histamine, it is logical that you would treat them with an antihistamine medication, such as diphenhydramine more commonly known as Benadryl. Of course, the best treatment for baby hives, whenever possible, is to remove and then avoid whatever is triggering your baby hives.

Common causes of baby hives can include:

· foods, especially peanuts, eggs, tree nuts, milk, shellfish, wheat, and soy

· medications, especially antibiotics like penicillin and sulfa drugs

· additives in foods or medications, such as the food dye tartrazine (Yellow No. 5)

· infections, especially viral infections

· insect bites and stings

· latex

· exercise

· stress

· exposure to heat, cold, or water

A fungal infection of the scalp by mold-like fungi is called tinea capitis. Tinea capitis is also called ringworm of the scalp. Tinea Capitis is a skin disorder that affects children almost exclusively. Fungal organisms known as dermatophytes cause scalp ringworm or Tinea Capitis by superficially infecting certain kinds of tissue found in hair, skin, and nails. Tinea Capitis can be persistent and very contagious. Tinea Capitis Symptoms may consist of itching, scaly, and inflamed balding areas on the scalp. Oral antifungal medications are required to treat the Tinea Capitis infection.

A health care provider may suspect scalp ringworm by the tinea capitis symptoms on the scalp but tests should be done to confirm the tinea capitis diagnosis. Tinea Capitis Tests may include skin lesion biopsy with microscopic examination or culture or a Wood’s lamp test to confirm a fungal scalp infection.

More About Tinea Capitis Diagnosis

Most dermatophytes do not fluoresce. There are exceptions. Two of those exceptions are zoophilic dermatophytes. Zoonotic means the disease can be passed from animals to humans. Cats are more likely to be infected of all animals. The skin changes in cats are very similar to those of affected people, but cats can carry the infection without exhibiting obvious signs. It is sometimes hard to tell the source of the fungus. Microsporum canis and Microsporum andoui are zoonotic minor causes fluoresce a blue-green color. A Wood’s light examination can also help to differentiate erythrasma caused by the bacterium Corynebacterium minutissimum from tinea cruris. The former fluoresces coral-red and the latter does not fluoresce.

The Wood’s light examination can be helpful in evaluating the scope of infection, identifying areas for sampling and determining treatment response when the tinea capitis diagnosis is positive. The examination can also be helpful for examining the contacts of an infected person.

Microscopic examination is fundamental to the office diagnosis of any Tinea Capitis infection. A biopsy is scraped from an active area of the lesion, placed in a drop of potassium hydroxide solution and examined by microscope. The examination is highly for Tinea Capitis is sensitive and specific for dermatophyte identification but can be done quickly and easily,

If hyphae are identified in fungal infections and if pseudohyphae or yeast forms are seen in Candida or Pityrosporum infections, microscopy is positive. A positive examination is adequate to justify starting Tinea Capitis treatment. Species identification does not usually influence treatment choices.

There are several different options that are often used to treat this Tinea Capitis condition. Suggestions for prevention include things like keeping the area clean. Using a medicated shampoo, with ingredients like ketoconazole or selenium sulfide, may reduce the spread of infection. It may be necessary for other family members and pets to be examined, diagnosed and treated. Treat Tinea Capitis now!

Head Lice Symptoms.
Recognizing that you have head lice, or that your child is infected, is important as these creatures are very easily spread. However, the fact remains that a head louse has no wings and cannot fly, meaning the only way it can move from person to person is by walking from hair to hair: those groups of people who have close physical contact – children notably – are therefore the most likely to be infected, and this explains why the head lice problem is particularly prevalent in schools.
Let’s have a look at a few of the main head lice symptoms: the first and most obvious one is incessant itching of the scalp, and this is caused as the lice pierce the skin to feed on our blood. It is important to understand that the itching is rarely noticed straight away, however, and that lice may have been feeding for several days before itching is felt. This is why one of the many recommended head lice home remedies is regular combing with a nit comb, an also why frequent examination is a prevention technique of some success.

Head Lice Can Cause Itching.

Nevertheless, if your suspect head lice are present thanks to itching then an examination will help you to confirm the problem: it may be that you can see the head lice moving around – and there are head lice pictures available, easily accessed on the internet, to help you correctly identify them – or that you notice specks of what appear to be dandruff, or fallen insects, after brushing or combing. The head lice life cycle is such that the population will spread very quickly indeed if not treated, for a female louse can live for a month, and in that time she may lay up to eight eggs on each day.

While on the subject of head lice it is also worth noting that pubic head lice prevention techniques involve the same regular examination, and while these infestations are less common and not so easily spread, they are treated in a similar manner.

Head Lice Remedies

Once you have a good understanding of the symptoms associated with head lice it means you can take action quickly when you suspect that an infestation is underway: making sure the infected patient is kept away from others, an treatment with such home remedies that are recommended – the nit comb, plus various herbal and natural methods that can be found – is essential in order to stop the creatures from spreading out of control.

Depending on who you talk to, there are as many remedies for ringworm as there are types of ringworm infections, more actually. Over the counter creams and ointments can provide relief for ringworm and oral products can be taken for effective treatment of severe cases of ringworm skin infections. Do-it-yourself home remedies are also touted as just the thing to cure ringworm.

What is ringworm? Fungal infections that are on the surface or top layer of the skin are referred to as ringworm. These are called dermatophytes which mean “skin fungi.” Skin fungi can only live on the dead layer of keratin protein on top of the skin. The Greeks called it Herpes meaning circular or ring form. In Roman times the disease was believed to be associated with the larval stage of Tinea, the genus for clothes moth. The two names were eventually combined to the term “ringworm”.

Fungal infections like ringworm, while contagious are not necessarily dangerous to a person or the people around them. It is rarely serious, but in most cases requires treatment of some kind. Most people who come down with ringworm infections are healthy. There is sometimes a problem with infection and re-infection within families, communities, and schools.

What happens when ringworm starts to develop is a small area of infected skin tends to spread outwards. It typically develops into a circular, red, inflamed patch of skin. This infection can affect both animals and humans. The appearance of the rash may vary depending on which type of fungus causes the infection. The fungi can travel around the body in the blood stream which enables them to spread to the warm, moist areas of the body.

Precautions can be taken to avoid ringworm type infections. Staying away from and avoiding direct skin-to-skin contact with a human infected with ringworm or contact with an animal infected with ringworm is always a good idea. Sharing another person’s towel or bedding could cause ringworm to spread. Things like playing in the dirt, while very rare, have even been thought to cause the spread of ringworm infections.

To cure ringworm infection is a process. Trial and error play a big part in coming up with a solution that works best for each individual. Whichever ringworm remedy you choose to use be consistent. Follow the directions carefully and continue the treatment for awhile even if symptoms disappear. This will ensure that the infection is completely gone and lessens the likelihood of reoccurrence.

Suffering from, or having a child suffer from, head lice is never nice, but there is a wealth of information available, both online and in books and pamphlets, that can help you understand what it is that causes a head lice infestation, how the head louse lives and the best way to approach head lice treatment.

Head lice information comes in many forms – there are some excellent lice pictures on the internet, enlarged to a great degree as these are very small creatures – and there is plenty of advice on recognizing head lice symptoms and diagnosis, plus different methods of treatment and how to look towards homemade head lice remedies as an alternative to the chemical shampoos that many people recommend.

Perhaps the most interesting, and telling, information is that regarding the head lice life cycle, something that is essential to understand if one is to treat the problem right: the adult head louse lives for thirty days, and each day she lays up to eight eggs. Each egg takes a week to hatch, and a week later is an adult, ready to begin breeding and start the same process over and over again.

Advice On Head Lice

This information is better explained at one of the many sites offering advice on head lice – run an internet search for ‘head lice life cycle’ – and with diagrams you can also learn to identify the head lice and the nits.

One piece of interesting information that often surprises people is that the louse and the nit are two different things: one is the adult insect, the other the egg waiting to hatch. You will also learn why the nits are so difficult to remove, and why it is often best to wait for them to hatch before killing and removing the young lice.

This sort of information abounds these days on the internet, as does information about home remedies, herbal shampoos and treatment regimes, plus smothering techniques, head lice prevention methods and much more, all aimed at helping you to eliminate what is an all too common problem.

Among the more interesting information is the revelation that the louse does not have wings, it can only move by walking, and why this makes it more likely to spread among young children, plus an explanation of why such unlikely seeming substances such as vinegar and even mayonnaise can be important in the fight against head lice infestation and the continuing spread of the creatures.

Head Lice Treatment

Liceadex Lice & Nit Removal Gel
Liceadex uses special surfactants that dissolve the “glue” holding the nit to the hair shaft better and faster than any other Lice removal product. As the nits become loose, Liceadex One Step Lice & Nit Removal Gel’s natural formula shocks, dries and kills the eggs in minutes. You then can simply, and quite easily, comb out the gel, along with the dead lice and nits, with a nit comb without snags or tangles, then rinse.

There is a school of thought that says head lice – being essentially harmless – need not be treated with anything that carries any substance of a risk, and that the best methods for head lice treatment are those that are based on natural products. This belief carries some weight, as although head lice are perceived as an embarrassment and the itching is irritating, they are not dangerous in any way and do not carry other diseases. Treating head lice with insecticides – some of which do carry inbuilt risks – may seem akin to using a crane to crush a fly.

Using tea tree oil for head lice treatment is a popular natural remedy for head lice

This is where natural remedies for head lice come into play, and in particular the very popular Tea Tree Oil head lice treatment method, one which has its basis in the age old beliefs of an ancient people.
The Tea Tree plant is native to Australia, and the essential oil is distilled from the leaves of the plant, where the native Aborigines are known to have used it for centuries for a variety of medicinal and health orientated uses. Indeed, investigation has shown that Tea Tree oil does have a definite anti-fungal quality, and it is used widely in many different ways as a head lice treatment for certain conditions.

Head Lice – Believed To Be Deterred By The Presence Of Oil

Head lice are believed to be deterred by the presence of the oil, and as such washing with a shampoo that contains Tea Tree oil is both a remedy and prevention, two birds killed with the same stone.
Those who are wary of using such products point to the lack of scientific basis for the success of such natural substances, yet in trials it was found that a shampoo using such natural oils was equally as effective in killing head lice as one of the more commonly prescribed insecticide lotions. Furthermore, reports are being heard of head lice becoming immune to the chemical versions as their systems adapt.
Logic dictates that if something is not dangerous, and simply needs to be removed, doing so with any sort of risk does not make sense, and this is why the natural remedies such as Tea Tree oil and ylang ylang essence, another popular substance, are becoming more widely used. Alternatively one could choose to smother the head in mayonnaise – another harmless yet much messier method of killing head lice – but the cleaner and less troublesome routine of washing in a good herbal shampoo, followed by the essential wet combing to bring out the nits which will not be killed by the oil, may be the preferred method. Choose the best treatment for head lice! head lice should be treated immediately.

I recommend you to use Liceadex Lice & Nit Removal Gel to treat head lice. Liceadex One Step Lice & Nit Removal Gel is a special, one of a kind, natural formula that provides a safe effective way to kill lice and their eggs, without traditional and potentially harmful pesticide ingredients like permethrin or pyrethrum found in many over the counter solutions or expensive, multiple-step, essential oil-based solutions.
It is an oft-held misconception that head lice are only suffered by those with dirty hair; the fact that head lice can infest anyone’s hair – no matter how clean – is one that needs to be reiterated often in order that prevention of the creatures can be successfully maintained.

There are some important factors of the head lice life cycle that need to be understood before discussing head lice treatment, as the way it lives is part and parcel of how it manages to be such as a common pest.

Head lice, for a start, cannot fly: to move between hosts they walk – moving from hair to hair – and thus need close personal contact in order to spread. Once settled on a host the female adult louse, who lives for 30 days, can lay between six and eight eggs each day. The eggs being the famous ‘nits’ are attached to the base of the hair shaft with a cement like glue– and each egg will hatch in about one week. Just another week later the lice are adults, and begin the cycle again.

This population explosion is difficult to control if left untreated, which is why we need to look at the various head lice treatment options available. A medical practitioner will most likely prescribe a medicinal shampoo, yet the chemical makeup of these is something that many people are unsure about.

Head Lice Treatment Alternative Remedies

The alternative is to treat head lice with home remedies, and these vary from the wacky to the proven.

While covering the infected child’s hair with mayonnaise or vinegar may or may not smother the lice, it does make a mess, and while many people still use this method it is preferable to look at one of the many herbal or natural treatments on the market. Also essential, both as prevention and as a head lice treatment, is regular combing with a specially designed nit comb to detect when they are present.

The purpose of these combs is to remove the very difficult to shift nits – and a quick look at one of the many head lice pictures you can find on the web sill show you how ably they are attached to the hair – preventing them from hatching and, as a result, reducing the population increase

Head Lice Symptoms

Head lice symptoms are typified by incessant itching, yet it is necessary – particularly if a child is known to be in contact with a sufferer – to carry out regular head lice inspections as itching may not occur instantly, but days after being bitten.

Head lice infestations are a sadly very common occurrence as the creatures are amazingly adaptable, and keeping an eye open for tell tale signs is a good way of being on guard. Head Lice should be treated.

The proliferation of head lice infestations, particularly spreading among young children in schools, shows no signs of abating, and a great part of that is down to the way these irritating creatures live their lives.
Put simply, head lice live on our scalp and feed off our blood – it is this that causes the irritation and itching that are prime head lice symptoms – and lay eggs which, in just a matter of days become adult lice and begin the process again, but it is the way they move around that gives us the clue as to why they spread in the situation they do.
A head louse has no wings and does not jump, so therefore the only way it can move from person to person is by walking from hair to hair; this means close contact must happen, and children are prime candidates for such.
It pays to be able to recognize head lice, and the nits – or eggs – that they lay, and this is why it is advisable to look at some of the head lice pictures that are commonplace on the internet. Many of these websites can also offer advice on prevention and treatment, and give more details on the head lice and its life cycle.
Head lice prevention is perhaps the best place to start: if you are aware there is a head lice infestation in your child’s – or your – close circle then you need to do all you can to keep contact with the infected to a minimum. Furthermore, a regular inspection routine is essential in order to keep an eye out for the creatures, and regular washing of the hair, perhaps with one of the herbal or natural shampoos that are supplied as home remedies for head lice, is also advisable. Do not be fooled into thinking, however, that head lice will stay away from clean hair as they are not confined to the unwashed, despite common belief.
Using one of the specially made head lice combs – designed to remove the nits and therefore reduce the population explosion – is a recommended course of action and will also help identify if lice are present: combing over a white sheet of paper will highlight any fallen creatures or nits.
Head lice are creatures that appear only too often, and the methods used to treat them are many and varied – some use vinegar for head lice treatment, others olive oil – and if you prefer home remedies then there is much in the way of advice, but it is also worthwhile looking at those lice pictures and familiarizing yourself with their appearance.

Head Lice Prevention – Some Good Advice
Many people are under the false impression that head lice will only be found on those who have a less than stringent hygiene routine; the fact is that head lice can live in the hair of anyone, and that they are an increasingly common nuisance, in particular among the young.
When considering aspects of head lice prevention it is important to understand the life cycle of the head lice, and how it lives. The adult lice lives among our hair – one of the common head lice symptoms is to see them moving around, or when they fall from the hair during combing or washing – and lays eggs, otherwise known as Nits, which are attached to hair follicles. As the adult can lay six eggs a day, and lives for up to 30 days, the rapid expansion of the population is evident.
Preventing head lice involves regular combing and examination of the hair to determine presence, and also deliberate avoidance of contact with those who are infested. It is vital to remember that the head lice cannot fly, and as a result the only method by which it can transfer between people is by crawling from hair to hair. This is why head lice infestations spread very rapidly in schools, as young children are prone to one to one contact more so than adults.
If, therefore, you are aware of others who have head lice it is helpful to keep your child away from them, in order to minimize the spread of the problem.
There is plenty of information on head lice and how to treat and prevent them on the internet, and perhaps the most important factor is being able to recognize head lice symptoms; head lice pictures are worth looking at as they help you to identify both the creatures and the nits, and reduce the possibility of misdiagnosing dandruff as nits, a surprisingly frequent mistake.
Symptoms are typified by itching, this the result of the lice piercing the skin to feed on the blood, although this rarely occurs immediately; it can be several days before the patient begins to itch, by which time the lice have already begun to lay and multiply. This is why regular inspection of the head and hair is the best option.
For treatment, there are several products on the market, but the home remedy method of regular inspection and frequent washing is the best way to prevent head lice.
