A Great Aid to Head Lice Identification

In terms of diagnosis it is very easy to get it wrong where head lice are concerned; head lice symptoms may be easy to identify, but it remains a fact that the characteristic itching may not occur until several weeks, even months, after the lice have moved their families in to stay. This is why knowing what head lice look like, and why keeping up with regular examinations is important, and it’s also why we should be very grateful that there are many excellent head lice pictures available for us to look at, some on the internet and many in books and other publications.

As a head louse is very small, it is important that we get hold of all the head lice information we can in order to understand what these tiny creatures are all about; they measure, in adult form, no more than a pinhead across and there are lice pictures showing them in enlarged form, but with a regular everyday object next to them – a coin for instance – to define the real size of the louse.

Such pictures are technical marvels, and we have the combined advances in digital photography and computer graphics to thank for that; a hundred years ago a picture of a head louse in a book on head lice treatment would most likely have been drawn by a very talented artist, using a microscope to view and creating a surprisingly beautiful depiction of what is a quite fascinating creature. These days the photographer is able to get an exceptional shot thanks to digital techniques, and the picture can be enhanced and enlarged on computer, and printed in extreme high resolution for the perusal of detail and form.

Head Lice Life Cycle

One of the best sequences to look at is a set of pictures showing the head lice life cycle; these are widely available and very interesting, and take you through all the stages from the nit – the egg – to the nymph or young louse, to the adult, a process that takes just two weeks from laying of the egg to adulthood; at that point the louse begins breeding again, hence we can understand why the population is prone to rapid expansion.

The digital age has given to us the ability to look at exceptional pictures of miniature creatures, and the head louse is one such, but it is the way that these pictures enable us to understand and recognize these tiny mites that is of the most benefit.

When it comes to mites cats do not have it easy; our feline companions are prone to suffering from a number of different types of skin mites, and can be quite badly affected should the condition be left to escalate.

Let’s get something clear before we go on: mites are not fleas, which are another common parasite found on cats, but members of the arachnid family that come in many forms and, like fleas, drink blood to survive.

Mites cats may have to suffer are widely found and come in many forms: the harvest mite is one that is often found on cats that roam outdoors, while the ear mite is a common mite that – as the name suggests – likes to live in the ear where it is warm, moist and cosy, but will also exist anywhere eon the cats body, and scabies mite – or itch mite – is perhaps the most troublesome of the three and also occurs on humans. All three, too, can also be found as skin mites on dogs with similar worrying results.

Dealing with the scabies mite first, this little creature is one that has a disgusting habit: feeding off our blood is one thing, but actually burrowing under our skin to lay its eggs is quite another. This makes it difficult to find when present on cats, and as a result the best indication of mites – as it is with all – is the appearance of irregular scratching in a particular area, and possible hair loss as a result.

Effects of Mites Cats

Indeed, it is the scabies mite that is the cause of the serious skin condition we know as mange, and this occurs when an infection is allowed to get out of control and the colony to multiply, resulting in a lot of burrowing in one area and the attendant scratching. In people, this condition is known as scabies, and has much the same results.

Ear mites may be indicated by an animal repeatedly shaking its head as if to get rid of something attached; appropriately so, as that is exactly the case. Ear mites are more prevalent in cats than dogs, but can affect canines too.

Treating ear mites is different to treating scabies mites and harvest mites, and any indication of mites on cats should be followed by a proper examination by a vet, after which either the appropriate insecticide lotion or cream or, if preferred, a natural based remedy can be applied.

Say Goodbye to Mites Cats

Ear Mite Pack is used when you want to take the more aggressive approach when treating your pet’s skin ravaged by Ear Mites.

This Ear Mite Pack repairs skin, removes debris, and also prevents infections.

The Pets’BestRx Ear Wash Treatment is a colloid based nonionic and anionic surfactant that is completely non-toxic and safe with no side-effects or dryness. It safely works in 24 to 48 hours.

Our veterinary strength Pets’BestRx Healing & Protection Spray and wound disinfectant works quickly to repair infections. It provides protection and on-contact relief of dermal and bacterial infections and works great as a preventative and a sterile ear mites cats cleaner.

There are various signs and symptoms of ringworm athlete’s foot rash and will, in most cases, not be apparent at the same time. Some symptoms that may indicate you have contracted an affliction of ringworm, athlete’s foot rash are itching, stinging and burning between your toes, itching, stinging and burning on the soles of your feet, itchy blisters are some of the signs. Other signs are dry flaking skin, especially between your toes and on the soles of your feet, excessive dryness of the skin on the bottoms or sides of the feet, and toenails that are thick, crumbly, ragged, discolored or pulling away from the nail bed.

With athlete’s foot and jock itch infection, the skin often becomes itchy, and the rash can spread quickly. It is a common occurrence to have both jock itch and athlete’s foot at the same time. This is no surprise since both are caused by fungi. Athlete’s foot rash as well as jock itch is a form of ringworm. Not a worm at all it affects the outer layers of skin, hair, or nails. The infection is in reality a fungal infection affecting the feet and can also spread to other body parts.

Dealing with Ringworm Athletes Foot Rash

Athlete’s foot rash is an extremely common skin disorder. It is the most common and perhaps the most persistent of the fungal infections. As hinted by the name, in instances of fungal ringworm, athlete’s foot rash is widespread in male athletes, but definitely not limited to them. Using public showers and locker rooms will increase the prospect of getting athlete’s foot rash. Fungi breed, grow and spread in steamy locker rooms where you will find wet towels, sweat dampened workout clothes, and damp floors.

Athlete’s foot rash is an itchy rash affecting the feet that is very common. Athlete’s foot rash normally is not serious but the infection is aggravating and a nusiance. Secondary bacterial infection can result from the fungal infection and is something to watch out for. These other complications may develop as breaks in the skin, open sores, ulcers.

To prevent the spread of the fungus from your feet to other areas such as the groin, put your socks on before you put on your underwear. Wear shower shoes when public showers and locker rooms are used. Dry off well after you exercise and shower. Don’t share your towel with anyone. Workout clothes, underwear, socks, and towels should always be washed after each use.

Ringworm Athletes Foot

Tinea is the fungus that causes ringworm, athletes foot and jock itch. Even though, they can be extremely uncomfortable athletes foot infections are usually not serious. Ringworm athletses foot infection is a red skin rash that forms a ring around normal-looking skin. Touching an infected person, damp surfaces such as shower floors, or even pets can easily pass on the athletes foot infection. Conventionally ringworm athletes foot is passed on from damp places where people often walk barefoot, such as showers or bathhouses, Athlete’s foot or tinea pedis, in medical terms, is a fungal infection of the skin. Athletes foot infection shows such symptoms as scaling, flaking, and itching of affected areas. While normally affecting the feet, the condition can spread to other areas of the body. These include but are not limited to the groin.

Causes of Athletes Foot

Ringworm Athletes foot and other such maladies are caused by superficial fungal infections of the skin, known as dermatophytes, are some of the most common self-treatable trivial medical conditions. As opposed to more serious fungal conditions, such as candidiasis or sporotrichosis, dermatophytes are limited to the upper layer of skin, where they subsist on the dead skin cells called keratin. In most cases, they are easy to eradicate.
There is much debate in the medical profession as to the best method to deal with the head lice problem; many people adhere to the belief that the best way is to use insecticide based lotions and shampoos – and there are many on the market – while others insist upon the more friendly and less chemically enhanced methods that are naturally based. The jury is still very much out, but is worth us looking at one of the insecticide treatments as a guide, and for this purpose we have chosen the Permethrin head lice treatment.

First and foremost, it is worthwhile remembering that permethrin, like all insecticides, is a poison, and that while it is only present in very small amounts in the products you can buy over the counter many people are concerned about applying such substances to the heads of their children; although this is understandable, the manufacturers and suppliers insist that the substance is safe if used carefully, and that it is successful in treating the head louse problem.

Head Lice Treatments

However, there is some opposition to that in the form of research in Great Britain, which concluded that permethrin is of ‘limited use’ in controlling head lice, but alternative views, as usual, abound.
Nevertheless, for many permethrin remains the number one treatment for head lice, and when itchy head lice strike you need to know you have the arms to turn to. It is available in two forms with brand names Nix and Elemite; the first is a 1% solution, the second a stronger five percent version, and while the former is an over the counter product the latter is obtainable only by prescription.

It works by being applied as a cream which is then rinsed off, and unlike many such applications it leaves behind a substance that is specifically aimed at killing nymphs, these being the emerging young lice that hatch from nits after a week. This is important as the nits are notably hard to remove, and even if a combing regime has rid the hair or live lice, there will be nits waiting to hatch over the next few days.

Argument persists as to whether the insecticide treatments are more, or less, effective that equivalent natural ones; some say that a shampoo equipped with tea tree oil is equally, of not more, effective while being natural, but the fact remains that many have to try different solutions to the head lice problem before finding a solution, and permethrin may be that solution.

Eczema Symptoms

Dust Mites Create Eczema Symptoms

Have you heard that exposure to dust mites could lead to Eczema Symptoms? What are Eczema Symptoms? If so, you may be interested to know its really a simple fact that dust mites basically bring about eczema.

Is it quite common for eczema outbreaks to happen as a consequence of irritants in the atmosphere you are in direct contact with. The major indoor contributing allergen to Eczema Symptoms is the dust mite protein. Around ten percent of the public has a hypersensitivity to dust mites as Eczema Symptoms. What are signs of Eczema Symptoms?

The signs and Eczema Symptoms of a sensitive reaction or an allergic reaction to dust mites include eyes which are itchy and watery, sneezing, a runny nose, sinus congestion, ear which are “stuffed up” and difficult to hear out of, persistent respiratory troubles such as head colds and include sinus drip, asthma and the Eczema Symptoms- called atopic dermatitis.

You cannot see dust mites with the necked eye as Eczema Symptoms. Dust mites are quite small, oval in shape, they possess 8 lower limbs and are a cream color as Eczema Symptoms. Dust mites have sticky pads on their feet that permit them to burrow into just about any form of fiber in your house. They can be found in furniture and carpet. A vacuum cleaner can completely clean up the particles of dead dust mites. Dust mites feed on the pores and skin and cause severe Eczema Symptoms.

Eczema Symptoms – Animal Fur

Dust Mites also eat animal fur, bacteria, fungi and pollen are Eczema Symptoms. The very best setting for dust mites to survive is when the humidity is from seventy to eighty percent. Dust mites can’t live too long when the humidity is reduced less than forty. One of the very best ways to steer clear of getting Eczema Symptoms is to keep your house as free of dust mites as possible.

Eczema Symptoms – Cleaners

A lot of irritants can result in eczema flare-ups and with a greater intensity. Try to stay away from washing detergents which could irritate the skin and make sure to rinse your garments 2 times with cold drinking water when doing the laundry.

Keep away from home cleaners, disinfectants, air sprays and various typical home substances that trigger you to sneeze, itch excessively, and produce a stuffy nostril and a sore throat. Buy gentle natural or organic cleaners for around your residence and constantly spray them away from your face. When using the cleaners, wear a mask on your face. Be sure not to mix cleaners because this can cause a noxious gas.

Steer clear of chlorine, solvents (similar to smarten up thinners or turpentine), mineral oil as well as crushed lime stone (prefer the crushed lime stone discovered in children’s sandboxes) and mud particles.

The scratchy fiber of wool can be very irritating to the skin so it’s best to wear synthetic fibers. One of the finest possibilities is cotton, because it is comfortable on the pores and skin, absorbs sweat and permits your pores and skin to breath.

Avoid Eczema Symptoms by wearing cotton! Learn more Eczema Symptoms.

Finding out that you or your child has head lice is not a sign that your personal hygiene is lacking as the louse is just as likely to make its home in the hair of on who washes daily as one who is less frequent in their regime. Furthermore, it can be several weeks before the presence of lice is detected, these creatures are tiny and the itching that is the major symptom has been known to appear after as long as three months, meaning that by the time you make the diagnosis the lice have spread to others.

The various methods of head lice treatment can be wildly different, and while many people prefer to use over the counter, or prescribed, insecticide lotions and shampoos, there are a variety of home remedies for head lice that can be tried.

If you want to search these in depth then run a web search with the words ‘head lice information’ and you will be directed to a wealth of websites dealing in head lice symptoms, the head lice life cycle and more, and even to sites that display some quite amazing head lice pictures.

Popular Head Lice Treatment

However, let’s look at a few of the more popular treatments for head lice: one that is essential whether used on its own or in conjunction with others is the wet comb technique, sometimes known as Bug Busting. This involves the use of a special head lice comb, a device with very close teeth that drags the louse from the hair and, hopefully, the nit too.

Another method of treatment is to wash with a shampoo containing the essential oil Tea Tree Oil, which comes from an Australian plant by that name and is known to have certain healing qualities. It is claimed to drive the lice away and, as it is completely harmless, may well be worth a try. Equally harmless is the practice of rubbing vinegar into the scalp, as this loosens the ‘glue’ with which nits are attached to the hair, making it much easier for the nit comb to remove them, but bordering on the bizarre are the smothering methods: in these, a substance such as mayonnaise, or preferably olive oil, is applied to the scalp, and it acts to seal the holes through which the mites breathe, thus suffocating them.

Most Effective Head Lice Treatment

Liceadex One Step Lice & Nit Removal Gel is a special, one of a kind, natural formula that provides a safe effective way to kill lice and their eggs, without traditional and potentially harmful pesticide ingredients like permethrin or pyrethrum found in many over the counter solutions or expensive, multiple-step, essential oil-based solutions. Our formulation is one of the fastest-acting and most effective products you will find today.

Kills all lice and eggs naturally in minutes

Contains no pesticides

Allows for easy pain-free, tangle-free nit and debris removal

Rinses completely clean without oily residue

Can be used multiple times safely

Can be used safely after “other” treatments have been done

Whichever Head Lice Treatment method you use there is plenty information available on websites, and it is worth reading the testimonies of others before trying out different methods.

Superficial fungal infections of the skin, known as dermatophytes, are some of the most common self-treatable trivial medical conditions affecting the population today. As many as one in five Americans have a dermatophyte infection at any particular time. When talking about the number of people affected the overall frequency is exceeded only by acne. Dermatophytes are limited to the upper layer of skin, where they subsist on the dead skin cells called keratin. There are several common dermatophytic infections constantly active in the United States. Ringworm, athlete’s foot, groin infection or what is commonly referred to as jock itch, are also quite common. It is difficult to determine the exact incidence of groin infections. It is not a reportable disease. Another factor that hinders documenting cases is the fact that patients are able to recognize it and treat it until it is cured.

Itching of the groin and in the genital area can be bacterial, but more often than not is caused by fungal infections. Humidity and moisture are contributing factors to coming down with any fungal infection. What occurs is similar to the growth patterns that are seen in molds, mildew, and similar plant species. They prefer warmth and moisture to be more specific. Clothing that fits tightly is thought to be an influencing factor in most fungal groin infections. For women, wearing pants instead of dresses has been labeled as one such influencing factor. Two significant factors come into play here. The first is the potential for moisture to accumulate underneath tight confining garments. Another is the risk of wearing clothing that has become contaminated and is not cleaned well. That is why most experts will recommend boiling the underclothing or contaminated garments thoroughly to minimize the occasion of the infection coming back.

The fungi that cause athlete’s foot also may cause jock itch or tinea cruris, which is an infection of the groin. Toenail infection (onychomycosis), and fungal infection of the hand called tinea manuum can also be spread by athlete’s foot fungi. Vice versa having any of these other fungal infections is a risk factor for athlete’s foot. Most people who get this rash are in good health. Ringworm, athlete’s foot, groin infections occur more often in teenagers and young adults. These infections are also more likely to show up if a person is experiencing hormonal imbalances or has a suppressed immune system.

There are a number of different types of mites that choose to live on our skin, or that of our pet cats and dogs and other animals, and they are widespread across the world. Most take up residence on animals, a few choose to live in our homes – often unnoticed – and some can result in rather nasty ailments that we should strive to avoid.
So what exactly are skin mites? Mites are not to be confused with lice, the creatures that affect children and live on our scalp, and are usually members of the arachnid family; some of the larger mites are just big enough to be seen while others are so minute they manage to live among thin layers of dust and not be noticed.

Great Sufferers Of Skin Mites

Great sufferers from mites, cats have to put up with several different types of skin mites, but in particular are prone to ear mites – which, of course, live in the ear – and to the scabies, or itch, mite which is also prevalent in people. Mites on dogs tend to be of these two types, two, although animals that are prone to roam can pick up harvest mites and some forms of tick – particularly the sheep tick – that live on other animals.
Ear mites, however, do not only live in the ear and can be found anywhere on the body of a cat or dog, yet it is the ear canal that provides food for the creatures; scabies mites cats suffer from actually burrow into the skin, as they do when they are present in humans and on dogs, and cause great problems as a result.
A proliferation of either mite on a cat or dog causes added aggravation and scratching which, in turn, leads to further irritation, while a congregation of scabies mites on cats or dogs can be the cause of the affliction known as mange (or scabies when it occurs in people.)
If you want to learn more about mites there are many websites that cover the subject, complete with mites pictures that are quite fascinating, from which you can learn a great deal about how these parasites live.

Getting Rid Of Mites

How to get rid of mites is a question that is often asked; the best method is to use one of the many insecticide mite and lice creams and lotions, or if you are not happy putting chemicals on your pet, to browse the internet and look up many of the home remedies that are said to the job equally well.

Permethrin Head Lice Treatment
A head lice infestation presents a very real problem – how to treat it. This problem raises debate across the world as those who favor natural products go head to head with those who choose to use prescribed or over the counter insecticide lotions and shampoos, and there is much to consider when making what is an important decision.
One of the problems pointed to where natural products are concerned, in particular the popular Tea Tree oil shampoos, is that unlike the insecticide versions they are not scientifically tried and tested; this is not to say that they do not work, but that the jury remains undecided as to their natural worth.
As for the insecticide lotions there are three main substances used: Malathion is a popular insecticide, Lindane a very controversial one and Permethrin a substance that is accepted as being among the safest of its family.
The controversy with Lindane has led to its use being banned in some countries, although it is still prescribed in the USA. However, shocking cases of it causing convulsions, and even fatalities, in the young abound, and it has to be said that Permethrin remains the preferred insecticide for head lice treatment.
Permethrin is found in the very popular head lice infestation treatment known as Nix, and this is known to be an effective killer of lice. However, it is important to remember that neither Permethrin nor the other insecticides will kill the nits – the tiny eggs – hence these need to be treated in a different manner, perhaps with the use of a nit comb, persistently and repeatedly, until they are all removed.

Using Insecticide Products For Head Lice

One problem that is reported when using insecticide products is resistance to the substance; colonies can develop resistance to the likes of Permethrin, and if lice are not killed within 30 minutes of the application of an insecticide shampoo or lotion then the treatment has failed. The option now is to try a different insecticide lotion, or resort to one of the natural versions or, more wildly, to smother the creatures in mayonnaise or olive oil, a messy but reportedly effective method of treating these tiny mites.
The controversy surrounding insecticide lotions and the use of Permethrin and its related products is one that will rage for ever more; there is no truly, entirely safe insecticide as all are poisons, yet if you follow the terms of use you may find that they present a successful solution; on the other hand your preference may be for natural products – the choice is, after all, yours.
