Eczema Pictures

Eczema is a disease in a form of dermatitis or inflammation of the epidermis. The term eczema is broadly applied to a range of persistent skin conditions. Eczema pictures show this to include dryness and recurring skin rashes which are characterized by one or more of these symptoms: redness, skin edema which is swelling, itching and dryness, crusting, flaking, blistering, cracking, oozing, or bleeding. Areas of temporary skin discoloration may appear and are sometimes due to healed lesions, although scarring is rare.

Doctors do not know the exact cause of eczema, but an abnormal function of the immune system is believed to be a factor. Some forms of eczema can be triggered by substances that come in contact with the skin, such as soaps, cosmetics, clothing, detergents, jewelry, or sweat. Environmental stimulants like substances that cause allergic reactions may also cause outbreaks of eczema. Changes in temperature or humidity, or even psychological stress, for some people lead to outbreaks of eczema.

Eczema can be intensified by dryness of the skin. Moisturizing is one of the most important self-care treatments for sufferers of eczema. Keeping the affected area moistened can be beneficial to skin healing and relief of symptoms. There is no known cure for eczema, so the treatments aim to control the symptoms like reduce inflammation and relieve itching. Corticosteroid creams are sometimes prescribed to decrease the inflammatory skin reaction in eczema sufferes.

While any area of the body may be affected by eczema, in children and adults, eczema typically occurs on the face, neck, and the insides of the elbows, knees, and ankles. In infants, eczema is commonly seen on the forehead, cheeks, forearms, legs, scalp, and neck.

Eczema Symptoms and Reactions

Eczema can sometimes occur as a brief reaction that only leads to symptoms for a few hours or days. In other more severe cases, the symptoms persist over a longer time and are referred to as chronic dermatitis.

Soaps and harsh detergents should not be used on affected skin because they can strip natural skin oils and lead to excessive dryness. Instead, the use of moisturizing body wash, or an emollient like creams or lotions, will maintain natural skin oils and may reduce some of the need to moisturize the skin. Another option is to try bathing using colloidal oatmeal bath treatments. In addition to avoiding soap, other products that may dry the skin such as powders or perfume should also be avoided.

Eczema Symptoms

Dust Mites Create Eczema Symptoms

Have you heard that exposure to dust mites could lead to Eczema Symptoms? What are Eczema Symptoms? If so, you may be interested to know its really a simple fact that dust mites basically bring about eczema.

Is it quite common for eczema outbreaks to happen as a consequence of irritants in the atmosphere you are in direct contact with. The major indoor contributing allergen to Eczema Symptoms is the dust mite protein. Around ten percent of the public has a hypersensitivity to dust mites as Eczema Symptoms. What are signs of Eczema Symptoms?

The signs and Eczema Symptoms of a sensitive reaction or an allergic reaction to dust mites include eyes which are itchy and watery, sneezing, a runny nose, sinus congestion, ear which are “stuffed up” and difficult to hear out of, persistent respiratory troubles such as head colds and include sinus drip, asthma and the Eczema Symptoms- called atopic dermatitis.

You cannot see dust mites with the necked eye as Eczema Symptoms. Dust mites are quite small, oval in shape, they possess 8 lower limbs and are a cream color as Eczema Symptoms. Dust mites have sticky pads on their feet that permit them to burrow into just about any form of fiber in your house. They can be found in furniture and carpet. A vacuum cleaner can completely clean up the particles of dead dust mites. Dust mites feed on the pores and skin and cause severe Eczema Symptoms.

Eczema Symptoms – Animal Fur

Dust Mites also eat animal fur, bacteria, fungi and pollen are Eczema Symptoms. The very best setting for dust mites to survive is when the humidity is from seventy to eighty percent. Dust mites can’t live too long when the humidity is reduced less than forty. One of the very best ways to steer clear of getting Eczema Symptoms is to keep your house as free of dust mites as possible.

Eczema Symptoms – Cleaners

A lot of irritants can result in eczema flare-ups and with a greater intensity. Try to stay away from washing detergents which could irritate the skin and make sure to rinse your garments 2 times with cold drinking water when doing the laundry.

Keep away from home cleaners, disinfectants, air sprays and various typical home substances that trigger you to sneeze, itch excessively, and produce a stuffy nostril and a sore throat. Buy gentle natural or organic cleaners for around your residence and constantly spray them away from your face. When using the cleaners, wear a mask on your face. Be sure not to mix cleaners because this can cause a noxious gas.

Steer clear of chlorine, solvents (similar to smarten up thinners or turpentine), mineral oil as well as crushed lime stone (prefer the crushed lime stone discovered in children’s sandboxes) and mud particles.

The scratchy fiber of wool can be very irritating to the skin so it’s best to wear synthetic fibers. One of the finest possibilities is cotton, because it is comfortable on the pores and skin, absorbs sweat and permits your pores and skin to breath.

Avoid Eczema Symptoms by wearing cotton! Learn more Eczema Symptoms.

Heat rash is also called miliaria. Heat rash is most common in babies and young infants when they become overheated. This happens either because it is too warm outside or they are simply overdressed. It could also be because they have a fever. Miliaria profunda occurs in people who have experienced repeated episodes of prickly heat.

Prickly heat, which is also known as miliaria rubra, is the most common type of heat rash. In this form of heat rash, the sweat duct becomes red and inflamed and manifest as small bumps with a red halo around them. They can be found grouped together inside the folds of his or her skin, such as the neck, armpits, and groin.

Miliaria crystallina is another type of heat rash. In this particular rash the skin doesn’t get inflamed, leading to the standard appearance of small clear vesicles. These are without any redness or other symptoms.

If a rash blanches when pressure is put on it, this is an erythematous rash and is not usually an urgent problem. Erythematous skin rashes may be caused by any number of things such as a viral skin rash, eczema, diaper (nappy) rash, thrush, heat rash, slapped cheek disease and seborrheic dermatitis, which includes cradle cap. Other examples are Hand foot and mouth disease, which starts with red spots that blister and erythema toxicum is a rash most often seen in newborn babies.

If the rash does not blanch when pressed, it is called a petechial rash. Seek medical attention urgently especially if the rash is appearing before your eyes or your child has a fever. Not every petechial rash is serious but it could be a severe condition like meningococcal infection, so if your baby or toddler has a petechial rash, it s a good idea to get it checked out immediately.

A newborn’s skin is prone to rashes of all sorts, but luckily most of these rashes are harmless and go away on their own. Although heat rash is one of those that usually goes away on its own in a few days, some children do require treatment, which can include:

· removing the child from the rash causing environment, such as dressing in less clothing, moving inside to a cooler, air conditioned environment, etc.

· mild strength topical steroids, although these usually aren’t needed

· calamine lotion

· compresses with cool water

· antibiotics for secondary infections

Anyone can develop Folliculitis wherever hair follicles are present on the body. The lesions in Folliculitis most often affect the chest, back, and legs. Other common locations include the face, neck, thighs and buttocks. Although not impossible, it is rare to have it widespread all over the body. It does not affect the eyes, mouth, palms, or soles, where there are no hair follicles. Folliculitis is estimated to affect more 10%-20% of people at some point in their lives.

Folliculitis is a common skin condition that appears as numerous small red or pink little bumps at hair follicles. It can cause a “chicken skin” appearance on the skin. Folliculitis can affect any part of the skin, including the chest, back, arms, legs, buttocks, and cheeks.

How Does Folliculitis Looks Like?

Folliculitis usually looks like red pimples with a hair in the center of each one. The pimples may have pus in them, and they often itch or burn. Folliculitis often appears as very small, slightly smooth bumps are scattered in a body area like the back. Some of the bumps may be slightly red or have an accompanying light-red halo indicating inflammation. Sometimes, scratching off the top reveals a small trapped or coiled hair within.

Razor-burn Folliculitis is very common on women’s legs and is caused by shaving. It may also be seen on the faces and necks of men. Some people are simply more prone to developing Folliculitis because of their overall health, possible altered immune status, exposure history, and other predisposing skin conditions like eczema or severely dry skin. You are more likely to get Folliculitis if you use a hot tub, whirlpool, or swimming pool that is not properly treated with chlorine. Wearing tight clothes, using antibiotics or steroid cream for long periods and if you use or work with substances that can irritate or block the follicles you are more prone to develop this condition. Also if you have an infected cut, scrape, or surgical incision the bacteria or fungi can spread to nearby hair follicles. Having a disease such as diabetes or HIV that lowers your ability to fight infection could also put you at risk.

Folliculitis Is Medically Harmless

Overall, Folliculitis is often not a pretty sight but is medically harmless. Many cases of Folliculitis may resolve on its own without any treatment.
What is Tinea Versicolor?

A doctor’s evaluation is the best way to confirm a tinea versicolor infection. It is a relatively common condition. Two to eight percent of the United States population has tinea versicolor disease. This skin disease frequently affects adolescents and young adults, especially in warm humid climates. It is thought that the yeast feeds on skin oils and dead skin cells. Infections are found more often in people who have dandruff and hyperhidrosis.

Diagnoses for Tinea versicolor

Diagnosis is usually based on a medical history and physical examination. The patches or spots that appear with this condition are distinctive, and usually allow the diagnosis to be made on physical examination. Physicians may use an ultraviolet light to examine the patches more clearly. Under the light yeast types in the Malassezia group may glow yellow-green. Another common practice in tinea versicolor treatment is for the physician to do skin scrapings of the lesions to help confirm the tinea versicolor diagnosis.

For someone who has received a tinea versicolor diagnosis the infection is easily treated with a variety of things like skin creams, shampoos, or solutions. If the infection is severe or if it envelops large areas of your body, is recurring, or does not ease with skin care, the doctor may prescribe antifungal pills. People with liver or heart problems cannot take antifungal pills. Blood tests may have to be done so the doctor can check to make sure your kidneys and liver are functioning properly.

Tinea Versicolor Treatment

Tinea versicolor treatment kills the fungi quickly, but it can take months for the spots to abate and for your skin color to return to normal. Tinea versicolor treatment can last days or weeks, depending on how the rash reacts. For six months after the first tinea versicolor treatment, a person may be advised to apply topical treatments occasionally or take one or more doses of oral antifungal medicine to help prevent the rash from returning.

Doctors often recommend that bed linens and pajamas be washed daily during the tinea versicolor treatment to avoid re-infection. Some experts do advise boiling or discarding contaminated clothing if the rash is unshakable to prevent tinea versicolor. It is believed to be a more certain way to eliminate the yeast during the tinea versicolor treatment.

Specific treatment will be determined by a physician’s positive tinea versicolor diagnosis. He or she will take into consideration factors like a person’s age, overall health, and medical history and extent of the condition. Their tolerance for specific medications, procedures, or therapies, expectations for the course of the condition and your opinion or preference will also come into play.Tinea Versicolor must be treated.

Tinea corporis (ringworm) is the name used for superficial skin infections of the trunk, legs or arms of a dermatophyte fungus. Dermatophytes are a group of related fungi that infect and survive on the top layer of the epidermis or skin called the keratin. Ringworm or Tinea Corporis is a skin infection caused by this fungus that can affect the scalp, skin, fingers, toenails or feet.

There are three groups of fungi that cause skin infection or Tinea Corporis of this type and can be categorized according to their preferred host sources:

geophile or fungi from soil sources

zoophile or fungi from animals

anthropophile or fungi from humans

The fungi transmitted primarily through contact with animals or zoophile is usually responsible for tinea corporis ringworm. It is usually transmitted through contact with animals such as dogs, cats, calves, hamsters, and guinea pigs.

Most mammals have at least one type of fungus, and in most instances the animal and fungus coexist without the animal ever manifesting any symptoms of the fungus or Tinea Corporis. This does not mean that the fungus cannot be transmitted to humans.

Children are particularly vulnerable to tinea corporis ringworm and can pass it effortlessly to other children. Adults are not immune and can also become infected. Persons who fall in the high risk category are farmers and people who work with animals that have fur.

The term tinea corporis is the medical term for ringworm, which refers to round or oval red scaly patches on the skin. They are often seen to be less red and scaly in the middle or even look healed at the center. It is common for one ring to develop inside another preexisting ring.

Tinea Corporis May Be Acute

Tinea corporis may be acute which means there is a sudden onset and it rapidly spreads. Or Tinea Corporis could be chronic which is a slow broadening of a mild, minimally inflamed, rash. Most often it affects exposed areas but could also spread from other infected sites. Non-fungal conditions that resemble tinea corporis include impetigo, Seborrhoeic dermatitis, Psoriasis, Discoid eczema, Lichen simplex, Contact allergic dermatitis and Pityriasis rosea.

Acute tinea corporis shows up as itchy inflamed red patches that may be pustular. Chronic tinea corporis is more likely to be found in body folds. Acute tinea corporis has a tendency to be stubborn to treat and prone to recurrence if widespread. Lessening of natural skin resistance to fungi or because of re-infection from the environment could possibly be the reason for this recurrence.

Dead Sea Salts bath not only helps to remove dead skin cells and restore beauty to damaged skin, but it is also a perfect cure for eczema. Sea salt is rich in minerals and helps to reduce pain, sooth inflammation, improve circulation and hydrate tissues. You can make whole body baths or just small amounts of water for local treatment.

Dead Sea Salt and Epsom salts vary in source and composition. Epsom salts, originally made famous by the mineral baths in Epsom, England, may be derived from a variety of natural sources; however, Dead Sea mineral salts must come from the Dead Sea, a saline lake located 400 meters below sea level in Israel.

Epsom salts contain high levels of magnesium and sulfates, whereas Dead Sea Salt mineral salts contain high levels of magnesium, potassium, calcium chloride, sodium and bromide. It has been determined, that using Dead Sea Salt Soaks are much better when treating Eczema, than when using Epsom salts.

About 10% of the people in the world suffer from atopic dermatitis. This is a common, chronic, and relapsing disease which necessitates drug treatment such as topical corticosteroids, antimicrobials, antihistamines, or immunomodulators, phototherapy, or climatotherapy at the Dead Sea or when using Dead Sea Salts Soaks.

Dead Sea Salt Study:

A retrospective study of 1718 patients revealed that treatments at the Dead Sea and stays longer than 4 weeks caused a clearance greater than 95%. Climatotherapy of atopic dermatitis at the Dead Sea is a highly effective modality for treating this disease. It is also a highly cost-effective method, as the patients take no medications and experience no side-effects. Successful climatotherapy of atopic dermatitis or eczema requires strict medical supervision throughout the whole length of the patient’s stay on shore.

We suggest that the favorable effects of bathing in the Dead Sea salt solution are most likely related to the high magnesium content. Magnesium salts are known to bind water, influence epidermal proliferation and differentiation, and enhance permeability barrier repair.

Dead Sea Salt and Epsom salts benefit specific skin and neuromuscular conditions when applied externally through climatotherapy and saltwater soaks, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC). Both types of salts provide nourishing elements which absorb through the skin. While the nutrients provided vary according to the type of salt, both salts benefit similar
Israeli physicians prescribe Dead Sea Salt baths for detoxification, arthritis, rheumatism, fibromyalgia, Eczema, contact Dermatitis and psoriasis. Climatotherapy, the combination of Dead Sea water therapy with sun treatments, reduces symptoms of eczema. The University of Maryland Medical Center states that sulfur soaks, including sulfur springs and Epsom salt baths, reduce symptoms of osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, psoriasis, eczema, dandruff and warts.

Dead Sea Salt Uses:

Dead Sea Salt Soaks: For a whole body bath add 1 to 2 cups of unrefined high quality sea salt to a warm bath tub. You can add some natural herbal oils to the bath to make it even more soothing. Make sure the water is not too hot. Soak in the bath for at least 15 minutes about 3 times a week. Sea salt baths will also detox your body by widening skin pores and letting you sweat without skin irritation.

Dead Sea Salt Shampoo:

Put Dead Sea Salt in your shampoo is you suffer from eczema of the scalp. You should experience the itch going away almost immediately.

Heat Rash can be caused by many different kinds of things and many of them are very distinguishing. A heat rash can be defined as any spots or red markings that appear on the skin, which is often itchy. There are many different types of skin rashes or dermatitis.

Dermatitis is a form of skin inflammation or swelling. Symptoms of dermatitis include redness and inflammation of the skin. This is usually localized. The red area may form tiny blisters that leak clear fluid, and then become crusty. There is also severe itching. This is probably the worst part about a heat rash. There are actually many different kinds of dermatitis. Exposure to poison ivy, poison oak or poison sumac is an example of contact dermatitis because a heat rash due to an allergic reaction develops as a result of direct contact to the skin. Other common causes of contact dermatitis include allergic reaction to wearing certain jewelry such as nickel, wearing certain perfumes, using certain cosmetics, shampoos, laundry detergents for your bed linens and clothes, household cleaners or solvents and the list goes on.

People develop heat rash for different reasons, but usually it is due to an allergic reaction to something, either by direct contact or by ingesting something that the person in allergic to. Also heat rash can be symptoms of certain diseases, such as chicken pox, measles or scarletina. Heat rash, miliaria or prickly heat are just a few of the names for what is typically known as heat rash. It is most common in babies and young infants when they become overheated.

Another Type Of Heat Rash

Miliaria crystallina is another type of heat rash. In this particular rash the skin doesn’t get red and inflamed. The normal appearance is of small clear vesicles. These are without any redness or other symptoms. Miliaria crystallina is a type of heat rash that occurs when the sweat ducts become blocked and rupture. These sweat ducts are closer to the skin surface though and don’t get inflamed, leading to the classic appearance of small clear vesicles on the child’s skin, typically on their neck, head, or upper chest.

Heat rash should be treated.

Ringworm, Athlete’s Foot, contagious rashes can all be contracted if you come into direct contact with someone who is infected. Touching contaminated items can also spread the infection. Direct skin contact also raises the chances of Ringworm or other contagious skin infections. Humans are far more likely to contract Athlete’s Foot or Ringworm from places like a school, playground, gym, or shower facilities. Tinea corporis in medical terms, but Ringworm to most people, is the name used for minor skin afflictions of the trunk, legs or arms of a dermatophyte fungus. Dermatophytes are a group of related fungi that infect and live on the top layer of the epidermis. Ringworm in the feet is a skin infection is called Athlete’s Foot and caused by this fungus that can affect the scalp, skin, fingers, toenails or feet.

The term Ringworm refers to round or oval red scaly patches that appear on the skin. They are often seen to be less red and scaly in the middle or can even look healed at the center. It is typical for one ring to develop inside another preexisting ring. Acute Ringworm, Athlete’s Foot infections show up as itchy inflamed red patches that may be pustular. Chronic Ringworm is more likely to be found in sweaty body folds. Severe cases of Ringworm, Athlete’s Foot, contagious rashes and the like all have a tendency to be hard to treat and have a likely-hood of recurrence. There are non-fungal conditions that look a lot like Ringworm, Athlete’s Foot and other contagious rashes. They include impetigo, Seborrhoeic dermatitis, Psoriasis, Discoid eczema, Lichen simplex, Contact allergic dermatitis and Pityriasis rosea.

Athlete’s Foot symptoms may appear suddenly and then spread rapidly. In chronic cases there is a slow growing area of a relatively mild, minimally inflamed, rash. It will more than likely affect exposed areas and it is not uncommon that it could also spread from other infected areas. Athlete’s Foot is most often treated with antifungal drugs topically applied. Topical therapy is adequate in most patients with Ringworm, Athlete’s Foot or other contagious rashes. It is normal for creams containing anti-fungal agents to work by hindering the fungi from producing a substance called ergosterol. This is a necessary part of fungal cell membranes. If ergosterol synthesis is completely or partially blocked, an intact cell membrane can no longer be produced. This effectively kills the fungus. Keeping feet clean and dry, not sharing socks or contaminated articles and wearing shower shoes goes a long way to keeping Ringworm, Athlete’s Foot contagious as it is from spreading.

Heat Rash Babies

Most bumps and blotches on a newborn baby are harmless and clear up by themselves. A rash is any skin bumps or blotches. The rash can be red, skin-colored, or slightly lighter or darker than skin color. By far the most common skin problem in infants is diaper rash.

Another common skin problem that occurs with babies is heat rash. With heat rash babies pores of the sweat glands become blocked. This generally happens when the weather is hot or humid. As the infant sweats little red bumps and possibly tiny blisters form because the blocked glands cannot clear the sweat. When the weather is hot or humid, the infant sweats, but because of the blockage of the sweat glands, this sweat is held within the skin and forms little red bumps, or occasionally small blisters in young infants.

Some helpful suggestions to avoid heat rash are during the hot season dress your baby in light-weight, soft, cotton clothing. Cotton is very absorbent and keeps moisture away from the baby’s skin. If air conditioning is not available a fan may help evaporate moisture and cool the infant. Place the fan far enough away that there is only a gentle breeze drifting over the infant. Avoid the use of powders, creams, and ointments. Baby powders don’t improve or prevent heat rash. Creams and ointments tend to keep the skin warmer and block the pores. Most often, heat rash goes away on its own. Severe forms of heat rash may need medical care, but the best way to relieve symptoms is to cool your skin and prevent sweating.

Heat rash is also known as prickly heat and miliaria and it does not just affect babies. Though it’s most common in infants, heat rash affects up to a third of adults living in tropical climates and can bother anyone during hot, humid weather. Heat rash develops when your sweat ducts become blocked and perspiration is trapped under your skin. Symptoms range from superficial blisters to deep, red lumps. Some forms of heat rash can be intensely itchy or prickly.

Heat rash usually heals on its own and doesn’t require medical care. See your doctor if you or your child has symptoms that last longer than three or four days, the rash seems to be getting worse or there are signs of infection such as increased pain, swelling, redness or warmth around the affected area or pus draining from the sores. Swollen lymph nodes in the armpit, neck or groin and fever or chills are all warning signs of a more serious condition.
