Tinea corporis is ringworm of body parts other than scalp, face, and feet. Skin infections like ringworm can be treated with antifungal creams or ointments. Applying antifungal creams like Lamisil or tolnaftate for around two weeks treats such ringworm infections. Tolnaftate is a popular ingredient in over the counter topical anti-fungal creams. Tolnaftate is used to treat skin infections such as athlete’s foot, jock itch, and ringworm. It is an antifungal that works by preventing the growth of fungus. Continue to use this medication until the full prescribed amount is finished, even if symptoms disappear after starting the treatment. Discontinuing the medication too early may allow the fungus to continue to grow, which may result in a relapse of the infection. Pets should also be treated if infection is suspected. Many of these products are available without a prescription. Use a nonprescription antifungal cream with miconazole or clotrimazole in it. Brand names include Micatin, Tinactin, Monistat, and Lotrimin. Terbinafine cream or Lamisil is also available without a prescription.

Tinea Pedis or athlete’s foot as it is known to most, is common in males and athletes. This appears as white and moist skin between toes. Although creams offer relief for the infection, you can take oral products for effective treatment for severe cases of ringworm skin infections. Treating ringworm is a must because not only is it extremely contagious but ringworm infection can lead to chronic problems and diseases. Dermatophytes live on dead tissues of nail, hair, and skin. This fungus causes ringworm skin infection although there are many other ringworm causing fungi. Treating the fungal infection may be a long drawn out procedure, as different types of ringworm infections need different treatments. Tinea Unguium is ringworm infection that attacks the nails and leads to a thickening and discoloration of the toenails. There are several effective treatments for such ringworm infections. Severe cases of infections in nails need oral treatments. With a product containing tolnaftate like antifungal Lamisil cream ringworm will be treated and faster relief will be achieved.

When taking precautions to avoid ringworm type infections stay away from the following, direct skin-to-skin contact with a human infected with ringworm or contact with an animal infected with ringworm. The infection is carried by many animals including dogs, cats, rabbits and even horses, pigs, and goats. Sharing another person’s towel or bedding could spread the infection that causes ringworm. Even playing in the dirt, though rare, has been thought to cause ringworm infection.

Superficial fungal infections of the skin, known as dermatophytes, are some of the most common self-treatable trivial medical conditions affecting the population today. As many as one in five Americans have a dermatophyte infection at any particular time. When talking about the number of people affected the overall frequency is exceeded only by acne. Dermatophytes are limited to the upper layer of skin, where they subsist on the dead skin cells called keratin. There are several common dermatophytic infections constantly active in the United States. Ringworm, athlete’s foot, groin infection or what is commonly referred to as jock itch, are also quite common. It is difficult to determine the exact incidence of groin infections. It is not a reportable disease. Another factor that hinders documenting cases is the fact that patients are able to recognize it and treat it until it is cured.

Itching of the groin and in the genital area can be bacterial, but more often than not is caused by fungal infections. Humidity and moisture are contributing factors to coming down with any fungal infection. What occurs is similar to the growth patterns that are seen in molds, mildew, and similar plant species. They prefer warmth and moisture to be more specific. Clothing that fits tightly is thought to be an influencing factor in most fungal groin infections. For women, wearing pants instead of dresses has been labeled as one such influencing factor. Two significant factors come into play here. The first is the potential for moisture to accumulate underneath tight confining garments. Another is the risk of wearing clothing that has become contaminated and is not cleaned well. That is why most experts will recommend boiling the underclothing or contaminated garments thoroughly to minimize the occasion of the infection coming back.

The fungi that cause athlete’s foot also may cause jock itch or tinea cruris, which is an infection of the groin. Toenail infection (onychomycosis), and fungal infection of the hand called tinea manuum can also be spread by athlete’s foot fungi. Vice versa having any of these other fungal infections is a risk factor for athlete’s foot. Most people who get this rash are in good health. Ringworm, athlete’s foot, groin infections occur more often in teenagers and young adults. These infections are also more likely to show up if a person is experiencing hormonal imbalances or has a suppressed immune system.

A fungal infection of the scalp by mold-like fungi is called tinea capitis. Tinea capitis is also called ringworm of the scalp. Tinea Capitis is a skin disorder that affects children almost exclusively. Fungal organisms known as dermatophytes cause scalp ringworm or Tinea Capitis by superficially infecting certain kinds of tissue found in hair, skin, and nails. Tinea Capitis can be persistent and very contagious. Tinea Capitis Symptoms may consist of itching, scaly, and inflamed balding areas on the scalp. Oral antifungal medications are required to treat the Tinea Capitis infection.

A health care provider may suspect scalp ringworm by the tinea capitis symptoms on the scalp but tests should be done to confirm the tinea capitis diagnosis. Tinea Capitis Tests may include skin lesion biopsy with microscopic examination or culture or a Wood’s lamp test to confirm a fungal scalp infection.

More About Tinea Capitis Diagnosis

Most dermatophytes do not fluoresce. There are exceptions. Two of those exceptions are zoophilic dermatophytes. Zoonotic means the disease can be passed from animals to humans. Cats are more likely to be infected of all animals. The skin changes in cats are very similar to those of affected people, but cats can carry the infection without exhibiting obvious signs. It is sometimes hard to tell the source of the fungus. Microsporum canis and Microsporum andoui are zoonotic minor causes fluoresce a blue-green color. A Wood’s light examination can also help to differentiate erythrasma caused by the bacterium Corynebacterium minutissimum from tinea cruris. The former fluoresces coral-red and the latter does not fluoresce.

The Wood’s light examination can be helpful in evaluating the scope of infection, identifying areas for sampling and determining treatment response when the tinea capitis diagnosis is positive. The examination can also be helpful for examining the contacts of an infected person.

Microscopic examination is fundamental to the office diagnosis of any Tinea Capitis infection. A biopsy is scraped from an active area of the lesion, placed in a drop of potassium hydroxide solution and examined by microscope. The examination is highly for Tinea Capitis is sensitive and specific for dermatophyte identification but can be done quickly and easily,

If hyphae are identified in fungal infections and if pseudohyphae or yeast forms are seen in Candida or Pityrosporum infections, microscopy is positive. A positive examination is adequate to justify starting Tinea Capitis treatment. Species identification does not usually influence treatment choices.

There are several different options that are often used to treat this Tinea Capitis condition. Suggestions for prevention include things like keeping the area clean. Using a medicated shampoo, with ingredients like ketoconazole or selenium sulfide, may reduce the spread of infection. It may be necessary for other family members and pets to be examined, diagnosed and treated. Treat Tinea Capitis now!

Antifungal Rash Ringworms

A group of many microorganisms, including a group of yeast species called Malassezia, live more or less undetected on our skin. The yeast can alter its shape under particular circumstances from a round or oval yeast form to a more string-like, branching rash. The yeast can travel under the skin and generate an acidic substance. This substance can alter the level of pigment or color in new skin cells. The yeast causes a fungal infection or rash, ringworms.

Areas in the Body where Ringworms Usually Occur

Arms, hands, neck, legs, feet, etc. are all areas ringworms likes to target because rash ringworms usually occurs on the body parts that are exposed. The normal appearance is that ringworms form circular growths that may vary darker or lighter than the normal skin color. Ringworms Symptoms may include skin lesion, rash and itching of the infected area. Ringworms infections are common where conditions are unsanitary and crowded with people.

Most people who become infected with fungal rash ringworms are in good health. If you are taking a corticosteroid medication such as prednisone for another health problem there is a higher risk of contracting an infection. It is also seen more often in women who are taking some form of birth control pills. This is also this case for women who are pregnant. An over-the-counter antifungal cream or ointment is the usual treatment for ringworms, except for tinea capitis, which is much more difficult to treat and often requires several months of an oral medication. Even with the use of a antifungal rash ringworms and other skin infections could reoccur.

Ringworms- Highly Contagious Skin Infection

Ringworms is a highly contagious skin infection. This infection can affect both animals and humans. The rash may be mildly irritating, but sometimes it is very itchy and inflamed. The rash may vary depending on which type of fungus causes the infection. Sometimes fungal skin infections look similar to other skin rashes, such as psoriasis. The fungi can travel around the body in the blood stream which enables them to spread to the warm, moist areas of the body. This gives rise to vaginal Candidiasis, Jock itch and an array of other problems both inside and outside of the body. What happens when the rash starts to develop is a small area of infected skin will spread outwards. It typically develops into a circular, red, inflamed patch of skin. It is rarely serious, but in most cases requires ringworms treatment of some kind.

I recommend you to use Ringworm Medicine Pack – Mild Cases for the treatment for ringworms.
What is Tinea Versicolor?

A doctor’s evaluation is the best way to confirm a tinea versicolor infection. It is a relatively common condition. Two to eight percent of the United States population has tinea versicolor disease. This skin disease frequently affects adolescents and young adults, especially in warm humid climates. It is thought that the yeast feeds on skin oils and dead skin cells. Infections are found more often in people who have dandruff and hyperhidrosis.

Diagnoses for Tinea versicolor

Diagnosis is usually based on a medical history and physical examination. The patches or spots that appear with this condition are distinctive, and usually allow the diagnosis to be made on physical examination. Physicians may use an ultraviolet light to examine the patches more clearly. Under the light yeast types in the Malassezia group may glow yellow-green. Another common practice in tinea versicolor treatment is for the physician to do skin scrapings of the lesions to help confirm the tinea versicolor diagnosis.

For someone who has received a tinea versicolor diagnosis the infection is easily treated with a variety of things like skin creams, shampoos, or solutions. If the infection is severe or if it envelops large areas of your body, is recurring, or does not ease with skin care, the doctor may prescribe antifungal pills. People with liver or heart problems cannot take antifungal pills. Blood tests may have to be done so the doctor can check to make sure your kidneys and liver are functioning properly.

Tinea Versicolor Treatment

Tinea versicolor treatment kills the fungi quickly, but it can take months for the spots to abate and for your skin color to return to normal. Tinea versicolor treatment can last days or weeks, depending on how the rash reacts. For six months after the first tinea versicolor treatment, a person may be advised to apply topical treatments occasionally or take one or more doses of oral antifungal medicine to help prevent the rash from returning.

Doctors often recommend that bed linens and pajamas be washed daily during the tinea versicolor treatment to avoid re-infection. Some experts do advise boiling or discarding contaminated clothing if the rash is unshakable to prevent tinea versicolor. It is believed to be a more certain way to eliminate the yeast during the tinea versicolor treatment.

Specific treatment will be determined by a physician’s positive tinea versicolor diagnosis. He or she will take into consideration factors like a person’s age, overall health, and medical history and extent of the condition. Their tolerance for specific medications, procedures, or therapies, expectations for the course of the condition and your opinion or preference will also come into play.Tinea Versicolor must be treated.

Dermatophyte infections can greatly affect quality of life, but rarely do they pose serious or life threatening problems. With the use of an antifungal fungal creams ringworm, which is a dermatophyte infection, can be healed. Treating the fungal infection may be a long drawn out procedure, as different types of ringworm infections need different treatments. Even with proper treatment instances of reoccurrence are not unheard of. Discontinuing the medication too early may allow the fungus to continue to grow, which may result in a relapse of the infection. Be sure to use the products exactly as directed and to keep the skin area dry and clean.

Tinea Corporis or Ringworm, the more common term used for a superficial dermatophyte infection characterized by either itchy inflammatory or non-inflammatory lesions on the skin. Another typical factor found in most antifungal creams is that it contains a second active ingredient to reduce the itching. Ringworm infections can be avoided by keeping the skin clean and dry, changing socks and underwear each day. Other measures include not sharing clothing or towels and wearing some type of shower shoe or sandal when in public showers or locker rooms.

While there are numerous home remedies for ringworm, antifungal creams are readily available over the counter and easy to use to treat all types of ringworm infections. Be sure to use the products exactly as directed and to keep the skin area dry and clean. You should always follow the directions given for the specific antifungal cream you choose. Whether or not your condition is not improving within a few days of use, you should continue to use the antifungal product for the length of time recommended before trying something else. If it is obvious that a condition is not improving, a simple solution may be a variation of strength of the active ingredient. Another option is try a different antifungal ingredient. There are different strengths available and they will also have recommendations for length of use.

If you use an antifungal cream to treat ringworm, you should first wash the infected area with soap and water. Next remove flaky skin and dry thoroughly. If there are large areas of blistered sores, use compresses to soothe and dry out the blisters. Completely cover the site with antifungal cream beyond the edge or border of the fungal infection. The directions on the package should be followed carefully. Treatment will probably need to be continued for at least two to four weeks.

Ringworm Athlete’s foot and other such fungal infections of the skin are caused by superficial fungal infections of the skin, known as dermatophytes. These are some of the most common contracted self-treatable minor medical conditions. As opposed to more serious fungal conditions, such as candidiasis or sporotrichosis, dermatophytes are limited to the upper layer of skin, where they subsist on the dead skin cells called keratin.

Ringworm is not caused by a worm or other parasite. Fungi are present everywhere in our environment, including on the human body. They thrive in warm, moist areas, such as locker rooms and swimming pools, and in skin folds. In most cases, they are easy to eradicate. Ringworm of the skin is most commonly caused by the fungus Trichophyton rubrum, which spreads from one person to another. It can also be caused by Microsporum canis, which is spread by cats and dogs. This type is less common but causes a more severe infection.

Some people are more likely susceptible to fungal infections than others. The tendency to get fungal skin infections or to have them return after treatment seems to run in families. In spite of the use of an antifungal ringworm athlete’s foot can be a recurring problem. Common in male athletes, but the general population is also susceptible to this fungal infection. Ringworm is common among wrestlers, probably because of the skin-to-skin contact. Using public showers and locker rooms will greatly increase the odds of someone contracting Athlete’s foot.

Fungi grow best in steamy locker rooms. These places are filled with damp towels, sweaty workout clothes, and wet floors. Sharing contaminated items like towels, clothing, and sports equipment, and by direct contact with an infected person is a dangerous practice when trying to avoid the spread of ringworm athlete’s foot. Most ringworm infections cause a rash that may be peeling, cracking, scaling, itching, and red. Sometimes the infection can form blisters, especially on the feet. While extremely annoying, athlete’s foot usually is not serious, but secondary bacterial infection are something to be concerned about. Coming down with a secondary infection is a hazard that can sometimes accompany the fungal infection.

These secondary complications may develop as such things as breaks in the skin, open sores, ulcers. A ringworm infection of the groin or “jock itch” is often passed to other body parts by unsuspecting patients by accidentally spreading athlete’s foot fungus to the groin area. People with athlete’s foot also commonly spread it to their hands. This is called tinea manuum.

Tinea is a fungus that can grow on your skin, hair or nails. As it grows, it spreads out in a circle, leaving normal-looking skin in the middle which gives it a ring-like appearance. At the edge of the ring, the skin looks red and scaly and is lifted up by the irritation. The infection can look like a worm under the skin this is why tinea infection is often called “ringworm.” However, there isn’t a worm under the skin at all. Athlete’s foot or tinea pedis, in medical terms, is a fungal infection of the skin. Although in most circumstances the condition usually affects the feet, it can spread to other areas of the body. This infection exhibits such symptoms as scaling, flaking, and itching of affected areas.

The body will usually prevent a fungus to spread below the surface of the body to cause serious illness. It has been found that people who have weak immune systems, such as people who have HIV or AIDS, may have a hard time battling a fungal infection. Tinea infections usually go away without leaving any scarring. Sometimes, people don’t even realize they have a fungal infection and get better without any treatment.

When addressing the subjects of ringworm, socks, athlete’s foot and fungal infection there are some preventive steps to take. Wearing 100% cotton socks is a good start. Change your socks when they are damp or if your feet get wet. Wear clean, dry socks every day. Over-the-counter antifungal foot powder can be put inside your socks to help keep your feet dry. It is important that skin is kept clean and dry. The prospect of infection is less likely if these as well as the following suggestions are heeded:

* Take your shoes off and expose your feet to the air when at home.
* Change your socks and underwear every day, especially in warm weather.
* Dry your feet and especially between the toes after using a locker room or public shower.
* Avoid walking barefoot in public areas. Wearing some type of shower shoes are recommended.
* Don’t wear thick clothing in warm weather. Sweating is more likely and will promote fungal infections.
* Get rid of worn-out exercise shoes. Never borrow other people’s shoes.
* Don’t share towels or clothing.
* Check your pets for areas of hair loss. Find out whether they’re causing your fungal infection.
* Clean shared exercise equipment before use.

Ringworm, Athlete’s Foot, contagious rashes can all be contracted if you come into direct contact with someone who is infected. Touching contaminated items can also spread the infection. Direct skin contact also raises the chances of Ringworm or other contagious skin infections. Humans are far more likely to contract Athlete’s Foot or Ringworm from places like a school, playground, gym, or shower facilities. Tinea corporis in medical terms, but Ringworm to most people, is the name used for minor skin afflictions of the trunk, legs or arms of a dermatophyte fungus. Dermatophytes are a group of related fungi that infect and live on the top layer of the epidermis. Ringworm in the feet is a skin infection is called Athlete’s Foot and caused by this fungus that can affect the scalp, skin, fingers, toenails or feet.

The term Ringworm refers to round or oval red scaly patches that appear on the skin. They are often seen to be less red and scaly in the middle or can even look healed at the center. It is typical for one ring to develop inside another preexisting ring. Acute Ringworm, Athlete’s Foot infections show up as itchy inflamed red patches that may be pustular. Chronic Ringworm is more likely to be found in sweaty body folds. Severe cases of Ringworm, Athlete’s Foot, contagious rashes and the like all have a tendency to be hard to treat and have a likely-hood of recurrence. There are non-fungal conditions that look a lot like Ringworm, Athlete’s Foot and other contagious rashes. They include impetigo, Seborrhoeic dermatitis, Psoriasis, Discoid eczema, Lichen simplex, Contact allergic dermatitis and Pityriasis rosea.

Athlete’s Foot symptoms may appear suddenly and then spread rapidly. In chronic cases there is a slow growing area of a relatively mild, minimally inflamed, rash. It will more than likely affect exposed areas and it is not uncommon that it could also spread from other infected areas. Athlete’s Foot is most often treated with antifungal drugs topically applied. Topical therapy is adequate in most patients with Ringworm, Athlete’s Foot or other contagious rashes. It is normal for creams containing anti-fungal agents to work by hindering the fungi from producing a substance called ergosterol. This is a necessary part of fungal cell membranes. If ergosterol synthesis is completely or partially blocked, an intact cell membrane can no longer be produced. This effectively kills the fungus. Keeping feet clean and dry, not sharing socks or contaminated articles and wearing shower shoes goes a long way to keeping Ringworm, Athlete’s Foot contagious as it is from spreading.

Tea Tree Oil is a natural antiseptic. It is also a germicide, antibacterial, fungicide. It is used by many people for a wide variety of things. There is no end to the uses of tea tree oil. It is used to treat things like athletes foot, cold and flu, oral thrush, cold sores and canker sores, tooth ache and gum infections, ringworm, candida, head lice or louse, cleanser additive, gum problems, mosquito bites, bug repellent, cockroaches, deter flees, mouth ulcers, herpes, cuts, abrasions, after shave, sunburn, anorectic or vaginal yeast infections, unwanted body odors, acne, toe nail infections, and believe it or not, the list goes on.

Tea tree oil (Melaleuca alternifolia) is a multi-purpose herb that goes back to the Aboriginal people of Australia. For thousands of years now they have used theses leaves as an antiseptic and antifungal by crushing the leaves and creating mudpacks. In 1770, the name tea tree oil was given to the herb by the British explorer Captain James Cook and his crew. The Australian natives kept it relatively secret for years but their government considered tea tree oil a World War II essential ingredient in their armed forces’ first aid kits. Increased use of pharmaceutical antibiotics decreased tea tree oil’s popularity everywhere except in Australia after the war. Tea tree oil started to regain favor in 1960 and today is also grown in California.

As mentioned above tea tree oil can be used to treat fungal infections. Tea tree oil is an excellent antifungal agent and can be used to treat Candida albicans, athlete’s foot, jock itch, ringworm, thrush, and onychomycosis, which are nail infections. When using a treatment of tea tree oil ringworm will respond favorably by putting a few drops of tea tree oil in a handful of water as a rinse after thoroughly cleaning the area with soap and water, or tea tree oil can be added to a liquid soap or shampoo. There are also shampoos and soaps available that already contain tea tree oil that can be bought just about anywhere.

For ringworm and nail infections, bath and laundry water can be disinfected by adding a few drops of tea tree essential oil to the tub and washing machine. Applying a tea tree gel, cream, or essential oil are other ways to use tea tree oil on fungal infections such as ringworm. Tea tree oil’s natural solvent properties make it a great product for washing cotton diapers; as a deodorizer, or disinfectant; to remove mold; and to treat houseplants for molds, fungus, and parasitic infections.
